Is GRAIN ROT on console, and does it have crossplay?

Updated August 16, 2026 · grainrot.cc team

Quick answer

No to both, and the second follows from the first. Steam's platform data lists Windows only — no macOS, no Linux, no console. With one platform there is nothing to cross-play with. No port has been announced, and the roadmap runs to October without mentioning one.

This page exists because several sites answer the crossplay question with a confident “yes” or a hedged “partial”. Both are wrong for the same structural reason.

One platform

OfficialSteam platform data for app 4450620, checked 16 August 2026
  • Windows: yes
  • macOS: no
  • Linux / SteamOS: no
  • Storefronts: Steam only
  • Console versions: none

Crossplay is a bridge between platforms. GRAIN ROT has one platform, so there is no gap for a bridge to span. That is not a limitation the developers chose to impose on multiplayer — it is a consequence of where the game is sold.

Everyone you can play with is on Windows via Steam, which is why the co-op side is straightforward: public server browser, password-protected servers, friends-only and invite-only, all within one platform.

No port has been announced

Official

Confirmed

  • Windows and Steam only, per Steam's own platform data
  • Full controller support ships as a stated 1.0 feature
  • The October roadmap covers content only — no platform work is mentioned
Unpublished

Not published by anyone

  • Whether a console port is being considered at all
  • Whether a native Linux or macOS build is on anyone's list
  • Any timeline, because nothing has been said

Worth reading the controller detail carefully, because it gets over-interpreted. Full controller support is a real, officially listed 1.0 feature — but it is a PC feature, and plenty of PC-only games have it. It is not evidence of a console port in progress, and we are not going to present it as a hint.

Where a port would be announced

The developers publish through Steam announcements and have been consistent about it — seven patches and a full monthly roadmap inside two weeks. A platform announcement would appear there first, and the patch notes archive is imported from that feed automatically, so this page changes when the record does.

For what is committed — a new vessel, the September biome and the October third floor — see the roadmap.

If you were hoping to play handheld

That is the more interesting version of this question, and the answer is genuinely nuanced rather than a flat no. Valve has not rated GRAIN ROT for Steam Deck at all, which is different from rating it unsupported. The Steam Deck page covers what the specs suggest and what nobody has tested.

Frequently asked questions

Is GRAIN ROT on PS5 or Xbox?
No. Steam's platform data lists Windows only, and the game is sold on Steam alone. No console version exists and none has been announced.
Does GRAIN ROT have crossplay?
The question does not arise. Crossplay means playing across platforms, and the game exists on one. Any site claiming GRAIN ROT supports crossplay is describing something that has nothing to cross to.
Is a GRAIN ROT console port planned?
Nothing has been announced. The developers' October roadmap covers new constructs, a vessel, a biome, enemies and the Outpost third floor, and mentions no platform work at all.
Can I play GRAIN ROT on Mac or Linux?
There is no native build for either. On Linux it would run through Proton, which Valve has not tested for this game — see the Steam Deck page for what that actually means.
Can Steam and Game Pass players play together in GRAIN ROT?
There is no Game Pass version. The game is sold on Steam only, so every player is on the same platform by definition.
