GRAIN ROT weapons

Updated August 16, 2026 · grainrot.cc team

Quick answer

Four weapons: Mallet, Hammer, Sword, Gun. Players put the Hammer and Sword on top because they are quiet, and the Gun below because noise pulls more Corrupted. Be aware that no weapon stats have ever been published — every tier list on this subject, including the one below, is opinion.

What the developers have published

OfficialChecked against every official post and the store page, 16 August 2026

Nothing. There is no weapon list, no damage number, no attack speed, no durability figure and no tier guidance anywhere in official material. The 1.0 feature list mentions Many New Items and an Enchantment & Repair Machine — a name, and nothing about any specific weapon.

Community A machine called Enchantment & Repair suggests weapons have durability and can be modified. That reading is ours; the developers published the name and stopped, so we are not going to write it up as a mechanic.

That is why this page is not a numbered tier list with letter grades against measured damage. Nobody has those numbers. Sites presenting them made them up.

The four weapons

Community Consistently reported by players, never confirmed by the developers.

WeaponPlayer ratingUnlockWhy
MalletBStarting weapon — the one you are handed in the tutorialAvailable from the very first run; No unlock cost
HammerSUnlocked through the Outpost inventory tier roomsHighest reported single-hit damage; Silent — does not pull extra Corrupted
SwordSTier 3Faster swing than the Hammer; Silent; Good against grouped enemies
GunAUnlocked through the Outpost inventory tier roomsOnly ranged option — kills before the Corrupted reach you

The one thing that actually decides the ranking

It is not damage. It is noise. The official part is narrow — the Corrupted react to sound, and to each other. Community The consequence players draw, and we agree with, is that a gun kills the thing in front of you and pulls whatever else was close enough to react.

So the community ranking is really a statement about the game's core tension rather than about the weapons. Quiet wins because the fight you avoid costs nothing.

Where players disagree

Community Worth knowing before you take any ranking at face value. The prevailing view puts the Hammer near the top. But one demo-era player, writing about difficulty, listed "the hammer is ineffective" among their complaints, alongside a weapon they called a bat having too little range.

We are not going to resolve that for you, because resolving it would require numbers that do not exist. Take it as a signal that weapon feel varies a lot with your room upgrades — one player's advice was to build the damage-adding rooms before buying a gun, after which "its not so bad". See how to play for what upgrades actually give you.

Names you may have seen that are not real

Weapon names circulating on auto-generated sites do not appear in any official material and are not used here. If a page offers you a weapon roster longer than four with confident stats attached, that is the tell.

Frequently asked questions

What weapons are in GRAIN ROT?
Four are consistently reported: the Mallet you start with, the Hammer, the Sword and the Gun. The developers have never published a weapon list, so this is community consensus rather than a confirmed roster.
What is the best weapon in GRAIN ROT?
The prevailing player view puts the Hammer and Sword at the top because they hit hard and stay silent, with the Gun below them for noise rather than damage. But no stats exist and players disagree — one demo-era player called the Hammer ineffective outright.
Why is the Gun ranked below melee in GRAIN ROT?
Noise. Officially, the Corrupted react to sound and to each other; the consequence players draw is that a loud kill can turn one enemy into several. That is the whole reason players rank it lower, not damage.
How do you unlock weapons in GRAIN ROT?
Through the Outpost's inventory tier rooms, per player reports, with the Sword commonly placed around tier 3. Room upgrades also add stats and gate quest progression, so they are worth building regardless.
Are there more weapons in GRAIN ROT than these four?
None that anyone has evidenced. Names like Rusted Cleaver appear on auto-generated sites and in no official material. The 1.0 feature list does mention many new items, so more may exist without being documented.
