Most pages answering this question tell you GRAIN ROT is “pending” Deck review, or that it is “playable but not verified”. Both phrasings imply Valve has looked at it. Valve has not.
What Valve’s own compatibility report returns
Valve publishes a machine-readable compatibility verdict for every app. For GRAIN ROT
(app 4450620) it comes back empty: category 0, with no test results attached.
Valve’s four possible verdicts are Unknown, Unsupported, Playable and Verified. GRAIN ROT returns Unknown — no test has been run.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. “Unsupported” would mean Valve tested the game and found something that breaks on Deck — an anti-cheat, a launcher, an unreadable UI. “Unknown” means the queue has not reached it. For a game that shipped on 7 August 2026 from a two-person studio, a fortnight without a review is unremarkable.

Two things follow. The 10 GB install is small enough that storage is not the constraint it is for most modern releases. And full controller support removes the failure most often responsible for a game missing Verified — a UI that assumes a mouse. That controller support arrived as a stated 1.0 feature rather than an afterthought, which is the kind of detail worth weighing against the asking price.
Working against it: there is no native Linux build, so everything would go through Proton, and the recommended GPU sits well above the Deck’s APU. Neither is disqualifying — plenty of Verified games are in the same position — but neither is a guarantee, and we are not going to dress up an inference as a result.
What players say
Community Players have reported getting the game running on Deck hardware. We have not found a source solid enough to tell you which settings, what frame rate, or how it holds up once a Deep Layer fills with Corrupted. Player testimony is genuinely useful here — it is simply not a Valve verdict, and this page will not present it as one.
If you own the game and have run it on Deck, that is exactly the kind of first-hand detail this page should carry. Until it does, the honest answer is the one at the top.

Deck review also tends to follow a game settling down, and this one is still moving fast: seven patches landed in the first five days, and the roadmap runs through October. A rating arriving later rather than sooner would be unremarkable.
