GRAIN ROT system requirements

Updated August 16, 2026 · grainrot.cc team

Quick answer

Windows 10 64-bit, 8 GB RAM and 10 GB of storage either way. Minimum asks for a GTX 970 or Radeon R9 390; recommended asks for an RTX 2060 or RX 5700. There is no macOS or Linux build.

Reading between the two columns

Three things are worth pulling out, because the table is more informative than it looks.

RAM and storage do not move. Both tiers ask for 8 GB of memory and 10 GB of disk. When a studio publishes identical figures in both columns it usually means neither was the constraint they were tuning against — so if you meet the CPU and GPU bars, memory and space are unlikely to be what stops you.

The minimum GPU is a decade old. A GTX 970 launched in 2014. That is a deliberately low floor, and it fits a game built around physics and lighting in enclosed spaces rather than open-world draw distance.

The jump to recommended is a real one. GTX 970 to RTX 2060 is roughly two generations. Expect the minimum spec to be exactly that — playable, not comfortable, particularly once a room fills with breakable objects and several Corrupted at once.

What the requirements do not tell you

OfficialSteam platform data via the official store API
  • Windows only. No macOS build, no Linux build, no SteamOS build.
  • Steam only. No other storefront, and no console version.
  • Full controller support is a listed category.
  • Family Sharing is enabled.

The absent Linux build is the detail that matters most for handheld players, because it means anything running on a Steam Deck goes through Proton — and Valve has not tested this game at all. The Steam Deck page covers what that actually means, which is not what most sites are telling you.

If you are deciding whether to buy

The spec floor is low enough that hardware is rarely the deciding factor here. The question people actually get stuck on is content volume, not frame rate — see the price page for the honest version of that, and the roadmap for what the developers have committed to adding.

Frequently asked questions

What are the minimum requirements for GRAIN ROT?
Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 8 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 390, and 10 GB of storage.
What are the recommended requirements for GRAIN ROT?
Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-10600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 8 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700, DirectX 11, and 10 GB of storage.
How much storage does GRAIN ROT need?
10 GB, and that figure is the same for both minimum and recommended. It is small for a modern release, which makes storage the least likely thing to stop you running it.
Can I run GRAIN ROT on Mac or Linux?
There is no native build for either. Steam lists Windows only. On Linux or a Steam Deck it would run through Proton, which Valve has not tested for this game.
How much RAM does GRAIN ROT need?
8 GB, for both minimum and recommended. The developers did not raise the memory figure between the two tiers, so RAM is unlikely to be your bottleneck if you meet the CPU and GPU bars.
Does GRAIN ROT support controllers?
Yes, full controller support, which Steam lists as a category and which the developers shipped as a stated 1.0 feature.
